Sierra Madre Hike

That's me folks in the blue shorts, beige tank top and white hat. Steve is only 2 people behind me. Not the one in the lower left hand the one with the funky right hand position. I slipped - LOL

Cabo San Lucas May 22, 2008

Cabo San Lucas

Ok – so I skipped a day. That was a sea day and nothing much happened other than some bickering, tiredness and altogether too much togetherness. I am a free spirit who is constantly on the prowl for a new adventure. I am saddled with an anchor and while that is good, sometimes too much togetherness does not a good thing make! LOL
I am seriously considering letting my 21 yr old DD come with us in August. She is such a daredevil when it comes to trying something new she’ll try anything once. Then again she does then to cling? HHMM?? To bring or not to bring? That is the question.

Anyway, we get to Cabo and I wake up at 8 am to get ready for our 9:30 sea kayaking adventure. All excited as the last time I wanted to do this, the water was too rough. Well, about 8:15 Brent comes on the intercom – the 3rd party operator has cancelled YET AGAIN all water activities. Too dangerous. OK so Cabo does not like me. At least time it let us dock/tender.
We take our time getting off and head off to our tender when it opens to the public at 10:30. We get on the pier and immediately head off to Diamonds International. My type of candy store!! LOL we see something but it really is too big for my finger – as my body may be big – I’m stuck with some small fingers. I was a size 4 ½ in high school and 20-something years later – I am just under a size 6. So, I wonder? If I lose the weight – will my fingers lose the weight too?
So we go wandering in search of trinkets and baubles only to be blindsided with all kinds of wrestling masks which seems to be all the rage. This, of course brings to mind that I really shafted my nephew on the Med cruise by only bringing him rocks so I make up for it this time – Vicki Jo – don’t tell him! I only hope no one else gets upset – Steve was being a Charlie Brown and harassing me for buying stuff. You would have thought I bought all kinds of things along the way. Seriously, I had no intentions of buying anything as the only port that I hadn’t gone to was Aruba. And, I learned my lesson, only magnets and postcards so he got off easy there. Well, to make a very long day short, we walked, had lunch and while at lunch shut my phone off. Why do I mention this? You will see in a moment.
Later in the day we finally walk into Milano Jewelry stores and I find a little trinket, much to my surprise, Steve tries to talk me into this Tanzanite pendant. Very pretty but I didn’t want to spend that much. Then it hits me when he says, he’d rather buy it now than in July when the girls come. Hm……is DH being a scrooge? Anyway, I resist and only get one SMALL tanzanite pendant and chain. Why? Because in Puerto Vallerta I got my Firefly fire opal – now that one folks is very nice – and an ammolite pendant which I now have to find a chain for. Oh the stuff I have to do just to please Steve! Tough job but someon has to do it.

So we proceed to get along with the charade and Steve picks a fight – come to find out later he just didn’t want me to be there while he bought it. If he’d of asked med – I would have stepped out and continued my shopping. Doesn’t he know that jewelry shopping takes away from my regular shopping? So we leave mad and without candy, only to have Steve go back and buy the pendant. So we decide to have dinner as I wasn’t really satisfied with lunch which consisted of Nachos with beans and cheese and 4 tacos – one Carne Asada, 2 chicken and 1 Nopales – which is cactus for you non-Spanish speaking people which totally grossed Steve out. I should have made him try it. Darn it! Anyway, by this time I’m good and mad as Steve is playing Scrooge to the tilt. So he decided to head back to the ship and drop off my packages which are making Steve feel like a pack mule (he wasn’t really all that packed down either). We book it to the ship on the way passing “Carlton” who was with a very nice looking young lady. Not sure if its his wife or companion. But anyway, we get on ship and Steve hurries me off again. I almost stayed there when I realized that the ships clock said it was 7. Last tender for the ship is at 8 pm. I tell Steve – forget it – I’m tired I can get my beans and chili at home. He gets this horror look on his face which immediately tells me – he bought the necklace. I tell him – you bought it didn’t you?

So now we have to book it off the ship. Which we do – we are stopped at the aft gangway as a tender boat is unloading. So waiting for a few minutes for them to pass, there is this drunk as a skunk gringo which comes barreling down and tries to board. I think – uh oh! Well, we finally get to load at 7:02. We get to the pier at 7:12 but then the tender boat pilot has trouble docking the boat and on his 5th attempt – we finally bang onto the pier. Steve and I hoof it off and I hear the drunk man asking the pilot if he can pilot the boat and he’ll give him his little treasure chest of beer. I don’t know what he was thinking but I booked it off there. I approach Jim , explain our situation and tells us to talk to the Magic Coordinator – forget his name – anyway, he tells us – “Folks, You know the last tender to the ship is at 8 and WE WILL LEAVE YOU. I say – yeah ok – just letting you know. We then go running to catch a taxi to the side of pier, we hope into the first one we come too which is about 3 minutes from the pier – whew – I am out of shape! So we jump in – don’t even ask the price but I explain the situation and that we have to get to the store – there was a minor modification which had to be done in order to get the pendant on the chain. The guy books it- imagine this big old van careening through traffic – only to stop off long enough to let Steve get out – almost slamming his door into a pole and then we have to go about ½ mile to make a u-turn. When we get back, Steve is waiting for us. We make it back to the pick-up point and the taxi driver says – ok – so I throw him a US twenty dollar and a Mexican $20 bill and ask him if that’s enough – of course he says yes – he got about an $11 dollar tip – but it was worth it.
We go running onto the pier and I hear the crew guys asking – so did you make it – I hold up my Milano Bag and he says – Oh – it’s a recommended store – if you’d of missed it – we could have picked it up for you on Tuesday and mailed it home to you – OK folks – imagine the DUH! DIS board icon inserted in here. So I say that’s ok – what life without a little bit of excitement. So do you all want to know what time it was when we stepped back on the tender boat? Keep in mind that we stepped off at 7:14 – it was 7:32 when we were seated back on the tender! We made it in all that time. For those of you that have been in Cabo – the Milano store is where Burger King was – walking distance is about 10-15 minutes. We would not have made it!
As for the time? When I shut my phone off at lunch and switched it back on a minute later – it updated with the PST zone time. I noticed that we “hadn’t spent much time at the taco stand.” Duh – now I know why – we were none hour behind. Had we really gone to have dinner and the to the ship – we would have really been waving good-by to the ship from the pier! So – for all those that hear the saying – everything happens for a reason? Yes it does! I took it as a warning and next time I will be wearing a manual watch. That was just a bit too close for comfort. I was having nightmare scenarios of us waving Goodbye to the ship.
The funny thing – when we talked to our tablemates at dinner – they had a similar experience – they had an excursion of the scenic tour of the bay at 11. They got to go by the Los Arcos and got some wonderful pictures of it. Turns out they mis-read the meeting place – they thought Rocking Bar D when I reality it was on the pier. So they were to meet at 11:30 on the pier. At 11:02 they were stopped by a full tender boat. Had to wait for the next one – get to the pier at 11:28 and come running up to the excursion meeting place where they are asked – are you the party of 6? Yes – ok – we are all here now.
So that folks, was another exciting yet typical experience in the roaming adventures of Steve and Laura – this one not of my doing – when are you men going to learn you can’t surprise us woman? LOL

OK going to shut off now as DH wants to attend the jackpot bingo of $25,000. Yes folks, it is up to that amount and HAS to go this session. But beware – the cards are all electronic – they do have paper ones but they go too fast and a professional to do those. But the price to join? $69 for 48 cards. The other option is $49 for 24 and $29 for 6 and $19 for 3 cards. Yup – I’m going to pass. My vice is not bingo – too slow for me – so I shop. That’s what Steve thinks but don’t hold me to that – I do however recall seeing the charge of $69 on our bill at least 3 times.

So folks, I have got to go and pack the rest of our stuff. Talk to you all later. We will be blowing in tomorrow morning – as today is Saturday and Steve just confirmed – we are drifting off the coast of either Mexico or CA. Wonder what excuse they’ll come up at dinner.

OK folks, let you know later if Steve is a big winner. Bye!
Dam! Go figure - now I can add a picture! God sure has a sense of humor doesn't he?

Puerto Vallerta, May 21, 2008

So today we hit Puerto Vallarta. We had company in this port the Carnival Pride was docked next to us. Let me tell you – they have an awesome slide. Oh well, I can give up the slide – sort of a mini water park. It was docked in the slot that the Disney Magic was back in 2005. I also finally got to see where the Sam’s Club was. In fact, Steve and I even visited it but more on that later. We got up at 7:15 – tired but I managed to drag this carcass (and that’s really what I’m feeling like) out of bed and dressed and got to have breakfast. After the excursion in Acapulco – the Ancient Petroglyphs, I was not taking another chance – I ate, eggs, corned beef hash, large bowl of oatmeal and one bagel. I wanted to make sure I had something sticking to my ribs. And it’s a good thing I did. Read on.
We left on time and there were only 25 of us on this excursion. We got to the place – did the prerequisite bathroom break – the bathrooms were clean but low in TP and no running water (it was turned on later). Then we proceeded to hike. The excursion we did was the Sierra Madre Hike. FOLKS – PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, CONSIDER THIS A WARNING. IF ACAPULCO SOUNDED HARD – THIS WAS JUST AS BAD IF NOT WORSE. The total hike was actually about 3 miles and the only good thing about this hike – well ok, one of the two or three things good about this was that it was conducted in May and in early morning coolness. But I do stress the word coolness with a hint of irony.
The hike pulled no punches – almost immediate we ended up going single file. About 95% of the trail is literally single file. FOLKS, please take me seriously, this is a loose, shale-like walk in places with some steep climbs. There is lots and lots of dust and vines and many times the leaves over your head will cover you and while it makes for a relief from the sun – it keeps it moist. I was drenched in my tank top within the first couple of moments. Trust me – there was a couple of times within the first 20 minutes where I literally wanted to kill myself. My heart was pounding so fast in my throat that I felt like I was going to pass out again. (I had a fainting spell on October 31 of last year where I ended up being taken to the hospital. Turns out my trainer was training me too hard – nothing serious at all –she just didn’t let me lie down when I needed too) Well, that was my danger sign to slow down so I did. I went to the middle of the pack and eventually ended up staying there up and back. We lost about 4 people within the first ½ hour. Imagine trekking through a jungle with vines and insects (well minus the mosquitoes – it wasn’t season yet) with dangling vines and a carpet of dead leaves and mulch. Yeah – well, that was this hike.
Many places were slippery and narrow and the drop-off as we climbed was very scary looking. We only stopped 3 times as the guide was pushing us. We had one guide in front – and I was kind of miffed at first at his speed but he explained it later. Then we had another one trailing. As I said, we lost the DVC lady – who came on this excursion almost immediately. I thought she’d turned back but later on – much later – she joined us at the top of the summit. But she was like ½ hour behind us. At one point, we all had to climb sideways and hold hand to form a human chain. I told you folks, this was different. Of the 25 people, the majority were older folks and that REALLY IS THE ONLY REASON I DID NOT TURN BACK. I thought the Petroglyphs was hard but darn it – I was not going to let someone almost 20 years older then me outdo me. Isn’t competition a grand thing? J
So, we finally reach the summit – this mountain is on private property in a little country town called Nogalito. There is one house which is a 6 bedroom house that would sell for about 2-3 million. Trust me folks, this is not a multi-million dollar house. I’m sure many of you have houses just as grand but for some reason, the American want to come in and take it over. The owners of the property were even offered 3.5 million to sell off 1.5 acre so that a developer can come in. Well, according to the guide, the owners are a bit saavy and are holding out.
Anyway, back to my description, we get to the summit and the guide tells us that this is as far as he goes on the excursion but that we had an option to go up a bit higher. He pointed it out to us and I nearly fainted. Here I thought that the climb we did was straight up – NOPE! This last part was about as far from the front entrance of Disneyland to the front entrance of CA Adventure. But straight up. Even now, I can’t believe I did it. Steve and I followed the other crazy nuts who wanted to get a good panoramic view, we about ½ there, I looked up and changed my mind. I sent Steve up ahead with the intention of staying at the ½ way point. Once I caught my breath, I had flashes of Steve crowing to everyone how I quit. Well, that little voice in my head just got louder and louder and stupid me listened to it and forged ahead. YEAH – I say stupid because you guys haven’t seen my pictures. I decided to proceed but took extreme care. I say extreme because at one point I had to cross what is essentially a part of the pass that was at most – 1 ft wide with death-defying falls on each side. Lets put it this way, I have a size 8 foot. Not wide, but I took a picture of my foot and the drop-off on either side that literally left inches on both sides. The trail to the lookout was very switchback and shaley so not to be taken lightly. Several folks did not go up there as it was just too steep. We took the prerequisite shots and then headed back down. If you all thought the climb up was bad, let me tell you – the climb down was even worse. We were told not to touch any trees or shrubs as you never know what is on there. There was poison ivy in the area. But you know what? I needed to grab on to something. I am sitting here with my right knee throbbing a bit and I’m in awe that I actually climb to those heights. Boy – was I stupid. I could have fallen and my kids would have been motherless. Stupid, Stupid, Stupid. But it sure was fun – AFTER THE FACT! ROTFL.
The way down was not as hard as going up except for a few spots. What was really interesting was that we had more people fall down on the way down than on the way up. I really felt bad for the DVC lady, as I mentioned, by the time I got back from the pinnacle, she had caught up with us. Well, the guide reversed the order coming down. Those in the back – her for instance, were first behind the guide and those that were first climbing up were last. The trek was treacherous and as I said, we had at least 8 people fall down. No one was seriously hurt that I know off but it was scary. Poor DVC lady – I know this is the 3rd time I said this but she fell/slipped down 2 times. The 2nd time was VERY hard. The guide tried to get her up and couldn’t. I know that must of felt embarrassed when he couldn’t pick her up but part of the reason was that where she fell was all shale-like rocks and powder. She ended up sliding down a couple of more feet to more stable ground.
Along the walk, some people spotted some blue parrot type of birds but my eyes were on the ground. I was not going to take a chance and break a leg. At the bottom of the climb, the guide informed us that we did 3 miles in just under 2 hours. He said that was very good as last week he took a group of 10 tourists and they took just over 3 hrs. Remember – we only had about 3 stops total. So, he, the guide gave us some interesting facts on the local floral and fauna of the area. Then we went to the restaurant on the property called – El Nogalito Restaurant and Jardin Botanical (botanical gardens). If any of you remember the 2005 repo, I believe that this is the same restaurant that one excursion went to for lunch. Out in the boonies and in the middle of nowhere? Yeah – that was the one.
So, we were provided a snack and ONE – repeat – ONE drink – be it water, soda, beer or margarita. I chose water and Steve chose a margarita. By this time, I plopped my tired ass into a chair and proceeded to state that I was not getting up until it was time to go. So the waiters brought our snack – a bowl of guacamole with huge chunks of avocado in it. Then took our drinks. I changed my mind and decided to go to the bathroom but not before I put in an order for a coke, nachos with guacamole and a plate of chicken enchiladas. Boy, it was a good thing the guacamole was good. The nachos were good too but the sauce on the enchilada was a bit too red for me. Steve and I devoured the enchiladas and split our cheese nachos with the couple brave enough to sit with us. LOL. Turns out that they were actually on the same Ancient Petrogylphs trip with us in Acapulco. She wanted to know how we faired on the private portion and I relayed the glorious details. J Turns out her husband is a Vietnam Vet and we exchanged Army stories. He thanked me for my service and I thanked him for his. LOL – we proceeded to swap horror Army stories but it was a lovely time.
So after a bit, it was time to go. We climb back onto the bus only to find out that out seats – the one that I left my camera backpack in – were taken up by some rogue seat stealers. I heard Steve hemming and hawing (I was behind him climbing into the bus) when I poked my head around to find out what he was huffing about. That’s when I saw that some people were sitting in our seats. I didn’t want to make a scene so I just pushed Steve and said – its an empty bus – there’s plenty of seats. But as I passed them, I noticed that the lady had a towel and was holding it rather funny at her side. I passed her and then thought about it – it registered that it was pretty weird. So I backed up and asked her – is that my towel under your armpit? She then answered – OH! Yes it is and your sunglasses too. Well, this really pissed me off then and I about whomped her stupid head! Damn lady had had no intention of saying anything. I had pass her up by 3 seat rows until I forced my way back. Truth be told, I thought that I had put mu sunglasses in my backpack but I must of left them in the seat. This means that when they climbed in the seats – they had seen my glasses. They then rolled them up in the middle of the towel and pushed it up against her shoulder and the window and covered it up with the bottom of the curtains. But for the grace of God, I’d of lost my brand new Oakley sunglasses. I don’t know what made me listen to that voice but I’m sure glad I did. As it sunk in what had just occurred, I got even more pissed and ended up saying in a rather LOUD voice – THAT LADY TRIED TO STEAL MY SUNGLASSES! I CAN’T BELIEVE THAT! LOL – it was rather funny to see them book it off the bus when we got back to the boat! They made sure to stay away from us and diverted to another line to avoid us. By this time, I’d already posted via my iphone and was almost over it.
So we returned to the Magic, I jumped in the shower and forced Steve to also. We stunk. Our once bright white and grey tennis shoes were now muddy red with not a speck of white in them. The leaves and twigs I brought back in my socks were not cluttering my stateroom floor but I didn’t care. I had a mission to achieve. I managed to talk Steve into going to Sam’s Club across the street. Folks, it is just as expensive as the ones in the states. No real savings except for a few things. Also, there is now a mall within the same shopping center but I didn’t enter it. I was told except for the language – it could be any mall in middle America with a Radio Shack, Wal-mart and other main staples of malls. So Steve and I snagged cab and went to the Diamond District of Puerto Vallarta where I managed to snag me some candy! LOL – the pretty kind too. We had about 45 minutes to deal and I came away with a very nice fire opal and a very nice ammolite. They wanted us to deal with a nice Tanzanite pendant but other than the color – it didn’t really sing to me. So, as I told them – I will be back in July and August and if I see anything then, I’ll get it. I got away with a very nice big fire opal, a ammolite pendant and a 18 inch gold chain. Not bad for 45 minutes of work. Steve wanted me to get the Tanzanite as it matched my ring I got in Alaska but I didn’t feel like spending $9000. I could get myself an original Ducky painting for that! ROTFLMAO! Seriously, if I got it now, I wouldn’t have an excuse to come shopping in July – my birthday and our anniversary double whammy! Of course, this was the reason Steve wanted me to get them as the girls will be with us in July and Megan’s birthday is July 20 while mine is July 23rd and our anniversary is July 21 along with my in-laws who will be traveling with us.
BTW, FIL was operated on last Friday for thyroid cancer and came out of it ok – they should be starting chemo for the lung cancer within the next week. Things are not good but we’re hoping that he will make the trip with us in July. The doctors told him that this chemo would not cure him but that could possibly extend the time he has left for a while.
So tonight was also the Crew Talent Show. This was a riot. Of all days not to have my camera. After the day I had and having some vision troubles through the lens – I attended without it. BIG MISTAKE. You all read my earlier blog about Chicken Boy being dead – long live Mr. Wiggle. Well, I couldn’t help myself, I left dinner to attend a portion of the 8:30 show just to catch Mr. Blue Wiggle wiggle his last dance. Boy, Brent is really going to hate me if he ever finds out! ROTFL.
Went back to dinner after the show and finished dinner. Nothing much after that except that we hashed memories with Putu/Agus and our tablemates who, BTW, attended the Historic Town and Tequila Making tour. They highly recommended it said they tasted flavored tequila for the first time, almond, mandarin and a few others but they slip my mind. I am booking this for the July cruise and can let anyone know what it turns out unless JustMEStace or GrandmaChrisX3 tries it out before then. Our tablemates did say that they did not have anything for kids to taste so some of you considering this excursion might want to take that into consideration. She, Claudia said the kids were a bit bored but the adults weren’t. LOL Wonder why – they had about 6 shots of tastings.
Oh yeah, ran into a couple in the elevator, seems their kids didn’t want to go out on an excursion so they left them in the kids club and they went out to party! Sounds good? LOL
OK – it’s almost 1 and I have got to get to bed. I only stayed up to type this and send it off so I’m not too far behind. Tomorrow is Cabo – as I posted – tendering – we get there approximately around 8 and last tender to Magic is 8 pm. It is also pirate night and yes – we are dressing up! Fireworks also so that is cool. We have kayaking to lover’s beach scheduled and will let you know how that goes. I am ready for a rest after all these arduous tasks I’ve put myself though. But in the end, I’m sure glad I did them. Now I know I DO NOT WANT to do them again – my walking mantra today? At least its not July or August! ROTFL!

BTW, clock turned back one hour - now only 1 hr ahead of PST. Almost there.

CHICKEN BOY IS DEAD!

ATTENTION, ATTENTION ATTENTION

CHICKEN BOY IS DEAD - BUT A WIGGLE IS BORN!!!

ROTFLMAO! Ok just a quick one before I forget. Tonight was Crew Talent Show. And for those that know - Brent AKA Chicken Boy is dead - Long live The Wiggles! ROTFL - today he portrayed a Wiggle - Mr. Blue to be exact and of all days NOT to have my camera! Steve talked me out of it. Darn It!

Anyway, just hopped online as they had one computer opened. Wanted to post this and let you know this. For those sailing on the 7-day - please tell Brent - LONG LIVE THE WIGGLES!

BTW, the man can really WIGGLE! :)

Acapulco, May 19, 2008

Acapulco – May 19th, 2008

OK so here’s the deal, Steve and I did the Ancient Petroglyphs of Palma Sola. Be warned folks, this is not an easy excursion. IT IS DIFFICULT!!! Please rethink this if you have any health problems such as asthma, heart condition and or difficulty walking on uneven paths. We were told that there is approximately 500 steps, not sure on that but it is extremely difficult. In fact, we had several people that could not complete it. It is all uphill – the down part is fine but steep steps on rock steps. This was May and the heat was almost unbearable. The DCL guide that came on the excursion ended up having to go down at least twice. SO, not that that has been stated, here’s my description of the excursion.

We left the ship about 8:40 only to wait on the ground for a few instructions. In that time, I sweated in my shorts to the point that I thought I’d pee’d myself. It is hot now – I can’t imagine what it will be like in August. We get to Palma Sola about 25 minutes later, after shutting my eyes in the van several times against the traffic. The driver was not bad, just everyone else was horrible. Taxis are volkswagons here – blue and white. And, they are ruthless and quick. So we get to the entrance of the “park”. It is a nationally registered geographical site under preservation – INAH to be exact. I forgot what it stands for but we were instructed not to touch the carvings. These carvings date back to 2500 BC. If we touch anything, the oils on our hands can destroy the carvings.

These carvings were carved on granite and we were told that it is believed that the Indians carved them with a type of sandpaper which they prepared. He told us how they may have done it but the details slip my mind. This portion took up the majority of the climb and be warned, while there are bathrooms here – bring toilet seat covers if you want to sit. They were clean but only 2 stalls were available and as usual – woman flock all at once. About 50 steps in, I already knew that one person was in trouble. He ended up having to drop out about 50 steps in. Then about 10 minutes later, another lady ended up having to wait for us under a mango tree about 1/3 of the way up. We get to the top and the best petroglyph was in a “cave”. It is more of a three-sided cave so no flash is necessary. Then right on top of the cave is a very good panoramic scene. The climb alone was worth it. As I said, going down was easy. What made it worse was the poor Steve was carrying my camera backpack with my two lenses. We reapplied sunscreen many times and thus avoided further sunburn.

After this portion, we were driven to a typical “marketplace” which really was just a serious of 4-5 stores. It shouldn’t have been worth a stop but I’m thinking they were behind on time. We had about 10 minutes there. While there – I waited behind one DVC member trying to order some sodas. This was fine but apparently they accused the people behind the counter as cheating them out of money. Yeah – maybe but all of $0.10 per soda. Finally after waiting for 8 minutes to get a soda, I got mad and left. We climbed back into the van and went to our last stop – a snack. We were provided with a drink and some appetizers. These were cheese quesadillas, taquitos, cheese nachos and a bowl of quacamole. This was fine but the same people that were fighting for $0.50 had two kids, which while I know they were hungry – we all were – the kids proceeded to eat the majority of the quacamole. What shocked me more was that they didn’t just do it once – they did four times. They went and picked up the quacamole bowl off the plate and put it in front of them. Once they had their fill, they then put the bowls back. I was a bit shocked that the parents didn’t say anything, they just ended up talking to another couple and let them do as they pleased.

After they dropped us off, the driver ended up offering to take Steve and I out for the rest of the evening. As all aboard time was 10 pm, we agreed. We paid $50 for a private tour and the guy turned out to be extremely helpful. I was in dire need of contact lens drops as the ship does not carry eye drops for contacts. He took us first to the artisian market where I picked up some candy, then we went looking for another type which I could not find. We then went to see the cliff divers. That was interesting as they were preparing for a major diving competition that is to be televised. So they TV cameras were being prepared. We ended up being there for over 3/4 hr as opposed to the usual 15 minutes since the divers were jumping for the cameras. I managed to get some awesome close-ups and some bad ones but at least I got some good ones.
Later, we went to see the Los Flamingoes Hotel which was the Hollywood Gang Hotel of John Wayne, Johnny Weismueller and other stars. We also saw a house which had some art of Diego Rivera. We went to a hotel which is the most “authentic” architecture from the 50’s. I believe it was called something like the Hotel del Pueblo Mirada – something like this. Anyway, it was getting dark and when we got off and looked – the most awesome view of the Magic was before our eyes. We saw the whole of the city and the Magic in port.
We got back to the ship after dropping into the “grocery” store for some items where I ended up getting some Mexican Sweet bread and Steve picked up a bottle of Don Julio Tequila Reposado for $28. We order 2 shots onboard and they were $13 each. So in essence, we got the entire bottle for the price of 2 shots on board. LOL

We got on the ship by 9:05 and I got the driver’s name and cell phone number and e-mail address in case anyone would be interested in hiring him privately. He said that he could possibly do a private tour for about $70 per van. His English was heavily accented but as I mentioned, he was extremely helpful and went out of his way to find what I needed. I felt very comfortable with him and would consider hiring him again. He told me that of the $50 he charged us, he would only end up getting about $15 for the day. AND………he hadn’t eaten all day. Apparently he was at work by 8 and they are not allowed to eat around us. The gas in Acapulco is about $100 pesos per liter and said they would gladly pay $4 dollars a gallon. Don’t know if this was the truth about him getting only $15 for the day, but it doesn’t surprise me. He apparent love of his history – he loves Mexico’s history and will gladly relay it to anyone interested. Anyway, it’s getting long and I have to finish.

So we get back to the ship at 9:05 and we walk through Lumiere’s which was our designated eating spot. The Menu was the Mexican Rivera cruise menu which is exclusive to the WB and EB. The menu featured their version of beef burritos, borracho bean soup – and a generally meager version of Mexican food. I ended up eating a specially made lasagna which was better than the menu. I felt bad as we only intended to say hi to our tablemates who it turned out were late themselves. They ended up eating outside and came by to eat dessert with us. Big surprise – we were later than them. LOL

After dinner, we went up to catch the tail end of Minnie’s Mexican Fiesta. Got there in time to see the “piñata” broke and the Minnie and Mickey and Pluto come dancing steps in front of me. So while I missed all the party, I got my picture! J
Went to bed and when I woke up Tuesday morning, my waist and stomach hurt from all the step climbing. So be warned folks, if the climb doesn’t get you at the time, wait until the next morning.

Gotta go and update Tuesday’s. Bye!

Acapulco at Last! May 19, 2008

Acapulco at last! Can I please just state here that I and my tablemates are desparate for some genuine Mexican Food. Ship was cleared about 11:30. Some people got off but most excursions are starting at 1 or later. I am in the Promenade Lounge waiting for 1:00 to come. We are doing the Ancient Petroglyphs and will let you know how that one is.

Just excited and had to say hi to check out the internet cafe here in the Promenade Lounge. OK all - just a quick note, the glasses in your stateroom are counted. Seems the cabin in front of us has gone through 18 glasses - they were upset at the steward as he was not replacing them and I hope, jokingly told him - All, Right Benny - we'll remember this. But it counts against Benny if he loses glasses. It seems the cabin occupants are big whiskey drinkers. OK - they are calling us - gotta go. Talk to you later.

FYI- Not Brent on our cruise - its Christian. Brent leaves at the end of June.

2nd Sea day, May 18, 2008

Well today was our second sea day in a row – actually fourth if you counted the Panama Canal. It has definitely gotten on our nerves this time as Steve and I ended up sniping at each other just before dinner. So I left him and went to dinner! YES I DID. Remember that time a few weeks ago where you said , I DON’T WANT YOU ANYWHERE NEAR MY BUSINESS? Yeah well, what’s good for the goose is good for the gander – DON’T TOUCH MY PICTURES! Rotfl – yeah he didn’t like it either. Stay tuned for part 4 tomorrow. LOL

Anyway, so today I woke very tired – I woke up again at 8 am then 9 am and went back to sleep. I finally woke up at 11:30 when Steve got up. Went upstairs to check out my pictures and got a package pricing for those that were interested. Here are the prices:
8”x10” Packages: 5 for $84.95, 10 for $149.95, 15 for $219.95 and 20 for $289.95
6”x 8” Packages: 10 for $84.95, 15 for $119.95, 20 for $149.95 and 30 for $219.95
Combo Packages:
A: $169.95 is any 5 – 6”x8” AND any 8 8”x10” (save $40)
B: $239.95 is any 8 – 6”x8” AND any 12 8”x10” (save $79)
C: $299.95 is any 12 – 6”x8” AND any 15 8”x10” (Save $119)
Photos can also be purchased individually: 6”x8” - $9.95 each and 8”x10” - $19.95 each.
NOTE: The photos taken during PC day are not the full size 8”x10”. They have a format with some canal facts. Sort of a formatted page which they insert your picture and they call these an 8”x10” - just a note to keep in mind.

So, something else to keep in mind, Capt Ken Puckett, who was the guest speaker on the Panama Canal, he basically did what Willie did last time. Anyway, seems he let it slip that it cost the Disney Magic $400,000.00 dollars to transit the PC! As in the words of John Charles – who held a special encore performance today – leave it to Disney to provide us with a nuclear sub escort – and how much did that cost them? It definitely got a laugh from the audience. ROTFLMAO!

Oh – Oh – Oh – something of interest to the 7-10 year group – apparently DCL has set another industry first – for the first time that Brent is aware of – the age group of 7-10 yo’s had a sleepover! Yup – you read right – a sleepover. Apparently it was held in the Oceaneer’s Lab and pillows and blankets were provided for. It was a major success and I wouldn’t be surprised if one was held on our EB cruise. Believe me, many parents were rejoicing their thanks to Brent!
As I mentioned, there was a special encore performance by John Charles who stayed on through the PC. He went over pretty good with this crowd. He only played for ½ hr but it was to a packed Walt Disney Theatre! Yes – folks – he packed them in at the Walt Disney theatre.

Now that also brings to mind the show today – it was The Art of the Story. I must of missed this one on all my other cruises because while 45 minutes – it really seemed like 20 minutes. It was pretty good but let me warn you guys – it was deliberately loud – Brent had warned us before the show started. I had taken my camera and got a few good shots. I’ll have to find a way to post one or two. I am down to 385 minutes and I’m trying to make it last until we get off. Don’t really want to pay for another package! Anyway, when they posted the cover of the show – it was signed by Don Williams – maybe because he has an intro and drew the drawings? You’ll see what I mean when you all get on here in August.

Dinner today was the Master Chef menu (BLAH) and it was not the best. The drink of the day was Deep Blue Sea. Didn’t try the drink but the menu definitely is not a must. Spoke with quite a few others who seem to have felt the same way. I ended up having the Tropical Fruit Cup with mango, pineapple, papaya and toasted coconut. That was good. I tried the Tuscan Tomato soup with Pesto and didn’t like it – it just tasted like something was off and couldn’t quite figure it out. LOL – one cup made the rounds of the table and no one could figure out what the missing ingredient was. One person said it was tomato. LOL. I had the grilled rib-eye steak but Steve says there was a mix-up (as in the earlier seating) I got sirloin steak. Oh well, not like I ate the whole thing anyway. For desert I had no sugar added berry cobbler and it was good. Steve had yellow jell-o with whipped cream.

We hightailed out to John Charles performance and then headed to dinner. Tomorrow, which is in about 15 minutes, we should be picking up the pilot at about 10:30. We should be landing in Acapulco anytime between 11 and 11:10. Brent says they are hoping to have an all ashore call around 11:45. I just love their precision! Steve and I have an excursion here – the Ancient Petroglyphs of Palma Sola. I’m a bit excited about this and am hoping that it lives up to its description. I probably should have done cliff divers but figured I’d do that with company I enjoy thoroughly! We are supposed to be there from approximately 11 to all aboard time at 10 pm! Yup that’s right folks – all aboard time is 10 pm. Course its different for us I think on the EB. We shall see. Also, dinner is supposed to be burritos, enchiladas and for dinner – churros – got a sneak preview as I mentioned that I would not be here for dinner – I was eating dinner outside – you all know me – I’m dying for some refried beans, carne asada tacos and chicken enchiladas. Real Mexican style – not the fake gringo type. LOL – no offense meant – just after 8 days of no Mexican food at all – I’m dying here. Where’s some salsa, where’s some beans, where’s some chili????????? J Well, Putu, AKA Agous, said – come to dinner – no matter what time – come for dessert, I think he’s a bit scared of my adopted family – you know how rambutious those Hispanics are – put them all together in a room and we make some noise! ROTFL! I’ll behave folks – I promise! Its just they are so much fun!

Oh yeah, today we got our second clue – the mystery of the sea – who stole the captains portrait painted by Yuri? I myself, think it’s the captain but we shall see. It was a bit mixed up as they had a huge turn-out and had to stagger the clue shows but it was all sorted out in the end. Let’s see, we have the yummylicious Storme, Trixie the out of work assistant, Francine the captain’s daughter and Yuri the painter – who can’t paint without his pinkies (don’t ask) and Francine who can’t work until she finds her father’s portrait. As I said folks – stayed tuned. It’s a bit chaotic but it’s fun.

OK so Steve is sawing away a logs again – guess its back to the same old grind. My eyes are closing too and I did absolutely nothing but eat, putter around and oh yeah, had a wonderful talk with another DIS-ser that went on the Med cruise with us last August. We spent about 2 hrs talking until it was time for me to get in line for Ducky. As usual, the line stretched from Preludes all the way to Studio Sea. Took me about one hour and I got into line at 4:40 when it was by the elevators. Insert look of horror here!) Oh yeah, since I didn’t win a Ducky litho, I may bid on the silent auctions that are starting on the 19th, that Monday, they have some neat stuff, an Ariel plate, some Patty something bags in the shape of Disney characters – such as my favorite – Ursula, Cruella, Flounder and 3 others. Starting bids for all silent auctions seems to be starting at $100-$150. I wonder what they’ll go for? Stay tuned. Auctions close on May 24th at 4 pm. Also, on May 23rd, they will start selling the Mexican Rivera merchandise. They now have a frame that holds a 4’x6” print and its really neat looking. They have the ones that hold 6”x8” and 8”x10” but I noticed that smaller one and its really nice looking – you know the hard cardboard style? Nice looking shirts too.

OK folks – guess I’ll end here as my eyes are drooping – having trouble again with these glasses not sure if the prescription was right. It was when I got on here but for some reason – can’t see far with them. May have to get my blood check to make sure I’m not borderline diabetic. I don’t think so but wow – my eyes have fluctuated a lot in the last couple of months. Getting old sucks!

Oh yeah – today was mostly cloudy and overcast but still warm. The ship has had more movement than in the Caribbean but its been ok – sometimes throughout the day you saw people walking around like they were drunk but it was just the ship rocking a bit. Nothing too bad as Steve never complained too much just commented on it. I consider ourselves very lucky as the seas have been very good to us. I hope it continues.
OK Folks – hope you all got what you wanted when you booked your excursions and that those fish did not swim for too long! Take care and see you all soon!

Sea Day Sound Off, May 17th pt 2

Sea Day, May 17, 2008
Tonight was Semi-formal night and not a lot of people dressed up. Steve and I did but we showed up late. Tonight was Twice Charmed and it seems that we have not attended but one show. I prefer to think of it as not missing them but saving them to see them with great company! J
The dinner menu was The Prince and Princes Dinner and the drink of the day was Razz Cooler. I took the advice of Dr. Phil – our beverage server and ordered Rivera which had Vanilla Vodka, Amaretto, Cranberry Juice and pineapple juice. It was actually very good. For appetizers I ordered the Crisp Ravioli Filled with Cheese and Steve ordered the Scallops “Belle” which was scallops baked in Lobster Bisque with a spaghetti of vegetables and topped with crispy pastry. He had moments of
For the soups and salad section I ordered the Coronation of mixed leaves which was vine tomatoes, blue cheese, apples, candied walnuts and aged red wine vinegar. It was tart but good. Steve ordered the chicken noodle soup from the kids menu – his usual. For the main course we both ordered the chicken and mushroom Wellington. Dessert consisted of the ice princess triple roll for me and it was ok – a bit sweet but ok. Steve ordered the chocolate slipper – AND jell-o from the kids menu.
I was still a bit miffed but decided to remember I was on vacation. Once we got to the dinner table, my adopted family cheered me up. Nothing like a good swapping of in-laws tales or horror tales to cheer me up! LOL – just kidding, we did talk in-laws but Maria – the matriarch reminds me so much of my mother that she just makes me laugh. OMG! That is it – that is why we connected. She reminds me of my mother. My mother is a sweet; lady who is really one of the last genuine person from the old school. EVERYONE who meets her loves her and vice a versa. Maria – doesn’t hurt that my mom’s name is also Maria, has 6 kids, like my mom – but where we have 4 girls and 2 boys – she has 2 girls and 4 boys. Anyway, suffice it to say, she is really a crack-up.
So that was it. Except for the fact that at lunch today Steve made a comment to our waiter whom we just happened to get, about the beverage service. Well, I tried to clarify it because Steve commented he would write on the comment card that beverage service was slow. I tried to tell him that if he did, Putu (Agus) would also get a bad rating. Well, at dinner, our head server, Hemant came up to me and asked me some questions. I told him that we would talk after dinner. At that time, I told Hemant that it wasn’t bad service – it was a bit slow but it was because Phil AKA Dr. Phil tended to get distracted by his enthusiasm to be there. I re-iterated that I would much rather have a server like Phil, one who is ALWAYS laughing and trying hard to please with a penchant for getting distracted than a very competent beverage server who doesn’t smile much of the time. So Hement said that he had talked to both Putu/Agus and Phil and that he told them to improve their service. So that is how Steve and I got Dr. Phil in trouble. He was much better today but a bit subdued. Steve was tired (same old, same old) and we went to bed. So here I am updating my blog. Tomorrow is another sea day and the DIS is holding their jammie breakfast and group photo at 9 so maybe its best that I go to bed early. Not sure if I will attend but I may. Then at 2:45, we are meeting “Trixie” at the Quiet Cove Pool to additional clues to finding the missing portrait of the Capt. Anyone knew who did it? LOL
Take care for now. Later -

Sea Day Sound Off, May 17th

Sound Off – Sea Day May 17th, 2008

OK – since this is my space, I’m ranting here – of no big importance so consider you warned. If you do not want to hear me rant – please feel free to skip over this and my feelings will not be hurt.
So today was a sea day. The first of 2 – we should be getting into Acapulco on Monday, May 19th. Not a big shopping port as Pippa recommends waiting until Puerto Vallarta or Cabo for any jewelry. The mood I’m in right now – I am going to get myself something. So here it goes.
I went to bed early – by about midnight – I was exhausted. BTW, Capt Thord came on the speaker system and confirmed that the reason the cameras were down was because it is the PC policy that anytime any US (probably others too) subs come through that they black out the cameras. So those that guessed that reason – you were right. At 10 last night we were only about 492 miles from the equator. The closest “supposedly” the Magic’s ever been. We were proceeding at noon time today at about 18 knots and would be speeding up in the evening. It was also about 94 degrees at the time. Today has been hot and a bit cloudy. No more sun for me so I’m inside all day. So after a very eventful day, I went to bed. Of course, I kept waking up about every hour starting at 5 am. Finally got up at 9:15 and puttered around hoping that Steve would get up. No go so I went to Pippa’s shopping talk. Found out the best port for Tanzanite – the rich, dark color I want is Puerto Vallarta. I will remember the name of the recommended store it slips my mind at the time but it is not Tanzanite International.
So after the talk, I head down to the room to see if Steve is up. For some reason, I guess I was a bit snappy but I move forward a bit. He was, we went up looking for brunch. We settled on Lumiere’s. Let me stop here by saying something. I am, believe it or not really, really shy. I get very flustered when meeting strangers. And as it has happened, several times over the years when we go to sit down, we get some very mean people that either look at me funny or flat out have told us they wanted to be alone – and not in a nice way. I have no problem if you want to sit alone but tone of voice people – you can be nice about it. So whenever we are asked if we want to sit alone I will always go for yes. The last couple of times, Steve has rolled his eyes and so I have opted to take a chance. Today, they sat us at a table of 8. So as we are sitting down, I jokingly said, well folks, we’ll be sitting down with you. I thought you could tell I was joking as there was either a family of four or an older couple and 2 younger men. As I sat down, I left one chair open between the lady and I. Well as I’m adjusting my chair, she turns her body a bit and moves her shoulder in. A couple of seconds later, the conversation tone at the table turns down. I tried to say something but the body posture was not open to starting a conversation. I tried to talk to Steve but he is not a big conversation person, hence the need to sit with other people for sanity’s sake. I lasted about 13 minutes (I timed it) couldn’t take it and fakes a seasick as I was facing a window on the starboard side in Lumiere’s. We got moved and I excused myself from the table on the pretense that I was getting sick. The other people barely turned when I mumbled the excuse. They hardly broke conversation. So I did not feel bad.
After getting to our table which was next to that one but facing a different way, we went through the prerequisite silence. Then Steve asked if I was feeling better. I replied that I was never sick just that I felt uncomfortable. His reply? Well, it looked to me like you didn’t make effort to make conversation to me. You never do. (Aside here – his mom has accused me of being Anti-social in the past – I’m not bt they look upon me as if I am and have never, ever updated their opinion of me. Just because I chose to not hide my feelings, doesn’t make me anti-social. Just as saying stupid things doesn’t automatically make you a stupid person. You make walk like a duck – but you may not be a duck – enough said!)

Boy, did that tick me off – it really is a stupid reason to get mad, but as I tell him, when you sit with people, you don’t turn your shoulder or back to them. My mother has drilled that into me since I was a child. OBVIOUSLY, HIS MOTHER DID NOT. I am rather sensitive to body posture and when I get a shoulder or ½ of one, its obvious you don’t want to interact. So, I took the hint. I moved. Then I got blamed as if it was my fault. Was I wrong? Maybe I was but I already don’t speak at dinnertime when its just Steve and I, why would I want to spend lunch the same way? BTW, dinner has been a blast with my “adopted Mexican family.” They are a hoot to be with. And the kids are great. Very nice and polite and don’t act like little children – very polite and can carry on a conversation. How delightful.
So that set me off. I was ticked. But decided to swallow it for the sake of being nice. I proceeded to order chicken noodle soup – which really was chicken broth with julienne veggies. Then I ordered a glass noodles salad – which was a cold Thai-type of dish with julieened pieces of pork with a Five-spice dressing. Let me tell you – it was delicious. I wanted another one. Then I had the Lumiere’s burger with double cheese and bacon and French fries. The food came out hot! Hot, steaming French fries for once! What a pleasant dinner. Once we ate, I tried to point out to Steve the lady’s posture and how I felt this was a subtle way of excluding people, he told me I was crazy or making it up! Wrong thing to say to me. But I forgave him. By this time, the Ducky Williams talk was about to start, we went – DIDN’t win a sketch so we proceeded to his art auction. This was the main auction – they will have another one but they will only auction off 3 pieces. Today was the usual 12 pieces. OMG! It was crazy. One painting went for $10,000. Yes, folks - $10 Grand. Another went for $7 grand about 2 I think and the cheapest went for $600. I didn’t really like it or I would have bid against it – it was another DIS-swer and I didn’t really want to make enemies. That person also bought another one but again, nothing really tickled my fancy. I was going to bid on one but once it reach $4,000 – figured I would settle for a diamond or tanzanite instead! J I did bid on something but left it for someone at $2,000. ROTFL.
So, then after, Steve headed out for Jackpot Bingo – the jackpot is going for $7,000. I am up in quiet cove typing and updating. That’s it so far today. Tonight is semi-formal night and we are in Animator’s Palette. Last night we got our litho. Very nice one – I am going to try to post another picture – I haven’t had much success lately but I’m going to try something else. So I will end this for now and let you know how things go.
Oh yeah, I decided to finally do the Mystery at Sea – does anyone know who stole the portrait of Captain Thord? ROTFL!
Later Folks,

PC Day, Friday, May 16

Cruising The Panama Canal

Ok so today started off at 6:30. The PC pilot boarded then and shortly after we entered the canal. We enter Gatun Locks around 7:30 and that was nice. It was hot as expected and miserably sweating. I normally don’t sweat but its seems I do in Panama. I did the last time too. Everyone was crowded around the front which was the same as in 2005. DCL did not allow chairs past the basketball courts. They had signs up posting this. As usual, everyone tried to crowd at the front. When I went wandering because tall people keep getting in my way (M – you may want those Tinkerbell wings or your in trouble) so I had to keep jockeying for a new vantage point. Anyway, in wandering around, found that the camera at the front of the ship was playing on the Jumbotron. AND NO ONE WAS AROUND. Maybe just a handful – the view was much better than where I tried to get too. I had to laugh. I took some pictures of the view from the jumbotron and will post when I can.
I managed to get someone to take my camera up on the maintenance roof by the basketball courts and I got a slightly different view which is nice. The exciting thing which most of you know about is that we were following a US submarine into the locks. It was really neat seeing them and I was able to zoom in when they in the locks with my 100-400m lens. I was able to see the “sailor” in the George Michael shorts – you all remember that? Was it I want your sex? Or Faith where he’s dancing? Wait – could it have been Wham? Remember those? Yeah – well some guy had them on. It was funny to see the sub meandering into the locks. From the guys talking around me – it seems that subs are not very adept at maneuvering above the sea. While they were going down, the “deck” of the sub was crowded along with that nest they have on the pole – is it like a crow’s nest? I am not sure of the correct terminology.
We entered Gatun Lock and I started texting Pam who was posting on a thread on DIS. Seems there were some people out there who were interested in what we were doing at the moment. ROTFL. She told me that people were taking laptops into the bathroom so as not to miss the ship. LOL – ok – I would probably have been one of those J
So we were greeted at the first observation deck in Gatun Lock. People were very excited and they had an emcee announcing play by play – not too much different than what I was doing. Before anyone asks – I have AT&T. I have a plan that includes unlimited texts in the US. Overseas or international, it costs $0.50 per text. It does add up but its cheaper than the internet here on the ship -which by the way it went out about 1 ½ days ago. I think it was because they ended up putting a tarp at the front of the ship where they signal might have originated from and it interfered with the signal. Anyway, DCL was a bit better prepared. They had ice cold water and lemonade but I didn’t find that out until later.
After the initial excitement everyone left to eat, catch some z’s or whatever until we hit the next lock or the BBQ started. It was supposed to start at 11:30 but it started early about 11:10. Good thing too because I was starting to get a bit cranky. I waited for Steve to get up and he finally did. Anyway, they had salmon kabobs, rib-eye steak, lemon-resemary chicken,BBQ short ribs, cous-cous, coleslaw, corn-on-the-cob, a cesear salad station and a bread station and desert which consisted of chocolate chip cookies, banana bread and pineapple upside down cake. Let me tell you they are really pushing the pineapple more so than ever.
Steve and I ate headed down to room to charge by phone – seems I was using it a lot! (Wink, Wink) then headed out about 12:30 to front of the ship. It was hot and I was trying to avoid a repeat of sun poisoning I got on the 11-Night Wonder so I ended up putting a towel around my head. It did indeed help and as it turned out – I did not get any redded. I am now a nice medium toasty brown while Steve is back to be in “rare” form! ROTFLMAO! Seriously, we both drenched ourselves in sunblock, but’s he’s the one lobster red. I’m fine.
So around Gamboa, I started the play by play with Pam and that is when I found out that the cameras seemed to be going down whenever the sub was around – probably for security reasons which was the general consensus on the ship also. LOL – as glued to your seats as you were at that end – people were just as glued my area as I was giving play by text plays myself! LOL
BTW, before I forget – I ran into Brent the cruise director – I told him I was going to retire his Chicken Boy title (J) and then asked him if he was doing the EB. He said no. He’s leaving at the end of June. So Stacey and Chris might still have him if they go in June. Our family will be going on the July 20-27th so we will miss him too. I haven’t sailed under Christian before but I did have some interaction with him – he was a bit distracted shall I say. Hopefully – he’s gotten on task.
Back to the PC, so for the Pedro Miguel lock – Steve and I were able to snare a prime spot at the front of the ship. Then as 1 got closer – I was pushed and prodded but Cheryl, you’d be proud of me – I stood my ground and did not budge – FOR OVER 2 HRS! After exiting Pedro Miguel, I couldn’t take it anymore and I left for deck 4. I passed Miraflores lock on deck 4 portside. For those that were on the 2005 PC cruise – remember the 4-story admin building where the camera was? Well, if possible, they were even more crowded than then. We were introduced by the emcee again and people cheered. DCL was kind enough to sound its horn and the people went crazy. I’m proud to say that NO ONE – I mean NO ONE threw anything over the sides. We all behaved! J
Between Pedro Miguel and Miraflores, the lake the two locks is only about 1/5 miles and is located 54 ft above sea level. There are two sets of locks in Miraflores each with a 27 ft drop/ascent. Whichever way your coming. Seems we were again the first one through Southbound – the Northbound (from Pacific Ocean to Caribbean sea) went first and we saw the last inbound pass us by. I guess that the canal runs North and South and in one city near the canal maybe Cristobal?????? Is the only place where the sun rises in the West and sets in the East. That is what the PC pilot told us anyway. He also repeated several times that the ocean on both sides – meaning the Atlantic and the Pacific are on equal levels but the waves on the Pacific Ocean are much harder and therefore they had to build bigger lock gates.
So upon exiting Miraflores I booked it to the aft portion of Topsiders and managed to get the locks closing and the photographers were still on the starboard side of the canal taking pictures. I so totally forgot about the secret deck on deck 7. Else I would have been there. It was crowded but not as crowded as deck 9.
When we pass under the Bridge of the America’s it was really too close for me. I know they have it checked out but the stack sure looked like it barely cleared the bottom of the bridge. Steve said that it looked like there was only about 10-15 ft clearance but I don’t know – I’m horrible with distance. Plus – I’m that much closer to the ground which colors my perception just a bit! J
Once we cleared the bridge, we were now in the Pacific Ocean. We stopped I assume to let the photographers get back on and to let the pilot off. Soon we were on our way. Steve headed out to se the Pre-mEAR of Narnia – they showed it at 12:01 this morning but we were both too tired to go. He went at 5 and the movie lasted 2 hrs and 24 minutes. I took a badly needed shower and tried to relax. I had this awful feeling that I was going to bungle my compactflash card so I downloaded the photos – not too bad folks – I only took 583 shots this time. Not too bad considering I was taking lots of duplicate shots. Later on I will try and delete some.
So for dinner, we had East Meets West. I ordered the Golden Pineapple Cristobel (with Tequila Fruits Compote) as an appetizer which was really very good and had cantaloupe, mango and honeydew and pineapple of course. Then I followed up with Chicken Noodle Soup from the kids menu. That was safer. For the main course I had Baked Pacific Lobster Tail with Yukon Gold Potato mash, garlic roasted asparagus and yellow squash covered in shrimp lemon butter. BTW, we got to keep the menus. They are some funky tropical yellow which resembles the postcard yellow – it’s a bit funky. You’ll all see. For dessert I had the Pedro Miguel Sundae which contained coconut ice cream (really good!) fresh pineapple, Curacao liquer, whipped cream and orange macaroon. Not bad – my lobster was actually really good and big!
OH, OH, OH, forgot to mention, Steve did a really nice thing. DCL had the characters walking around the ship, in one of Steve’s “wanderings” he bumped into Minnie (in her tropical dress) and I had my Marine Cpt photo laminated and I’ve been taking pictures with it – well, she not only held it but she then kissed it and it is sooooooo cute. I have just got to send it to the SGT Sperl’s company in Iraq. They will get a kick out of it – I have Donald Saluting, Minnie kissing and Cpt Thord holding it – sorta like from one CPT to another. Everyone here – mainly the photographers around here, have been really good about getting close-ups with it. They all know me by now! LOL. Its awesome. Anyway, dinner was nice but I was tired – am and so I think I will close for now.
We are headed for Acapulco now and the ship is moving a lot faster than it has since we boarded. Either that or the Pacific is welcoming us in her own way. The ship is rolling a bit – still not too bad but enough to make me want to go to bed. I am tired. I got up at 5:45 today and I had no nap. In fact, I didn’t sit down the whole day until we exited Miraflores lock around 4:30.
We wer e Lumiere’s tonight and we had “the Beauty and the Beast” show – lasted all of 2 minutes! But still nice. OK – can’t keep eyes open. Gotta - sea days for the 2 days then Acapulco. Talk to you all tomorrow.
One week gone – see you all soon!

Thursday, May 15, 2008

OK here goes - I finally got converted to Starbucks - they ended up giving us one by mistake and I got hooked. A Vanilla Steamer is steamed milk with a shot of vanilla and whipped cream. Yummy. I'm hooked here. They didn't have it on the menu but I asked and we have sorta figured it out - at least one of the ladies didn't know but today this one - YUMMY! I'm gonna take her home.

Thanks Arlene - now I can plan my wake-up call. BBQ tomorrow - confirmed by a source. Yummy!

Sea Day

Hey all - today was a sea day and I've been busy. Actually used the gym for the first time in all my cruises. Then delivered my fish gift. Let me tell you folks, I've gotten some good stuff.

FYI - the pins are supposed to be changing I posted this info on disboards. I'm on here to see if I can post pictures from Quiet Cove. Can't do it from my hole. LOL

Oh yeah, I got the barrista to make me a Vanilla Creme Steamer. Yummy!

Be on later. By the way, anyone know what time we're supposed to be going through the first lock?????? LOL

darn it - what is the problem?????

Shots Around the Ship! FUN!

Cpt Thord is our caption - Cpt Tom will be back for the August one.
M - will get you a wine price - didn't look first night as I don't drink wine but will do.

Fitness Question - I have a flyer which the spa handed out with free classes that you don't need to sign up for - some are held at different parts of the ship - s/a yoga on deck something or other.

Monica - the rotation I got in the beginning was Lumaires, AP, then PC. Same as old style but I will ask tomorrow if they plan on keeping it. My change one it gets to the Mexican Rivera. We'll have to keep an eye on it - maybe Stace and Chris can confirm on this too?

Mike, will ask around, some people will be leaving and not returning - anyone in particular? Brent is on now, not Rachel, Trent is emcee and DJ Mike is DJ. Let me know if anyone in particular you want me to check up on.

Only entertainment crew I recognized was Natalie. A couple of servers from the Wonder are here recognized them.

That's if for now. Will check comments later.

Thoughts on Aruba

Aruba! Be forwarned - this is long!

Well, the Magic made its inaugural first visit to Aruba and as usual, I was asleep. Let me take a minute to explain for those not going on this cruise. Aruba is part of Holland – while it has its own parliament – the governor is appointed by Queen Beatrice herself and rules along with the government of Aruba. In a sense, Aruba was granted permission for self-government in 1986 I think. I may be off a little. It’s late and I’m writing this before I forget. Anyway, Aruba is part of the ABC Islands. A for Aruba, B for Bonaire and C for Curacao, which we visited back in 2005 on the 1st PC crossing. There are another 3 islands also called the SSS Islands for – St. Martin, St. Eustasis and another St. Island but I’m tired and it doesn’t matter anyway. LOL
So, let me get on with my memory – we woke up at 6:45 am to get ready for an 8 am excursion. We had picked The Best of Aruba Island Tour. Things went well until we actually started the excursion. Steve and I got up, ate breakfast, got down to Rocking Bar D. Checked in and then found out we were supposed to hit the beach (forgot that little part). Anyway, so we picked up towels and then headed out for the aft gangway deck 1. We finally got loaded onto busses – imagine this – 5 busses of this excursion.
Our first stop was a place called Casibari Rock. It is a rock formation that sits very near the highest point of the island. This highest point is called the Haystack and Casibari Rock is actually a “garden” which is enclosed and is a typical tourist attraction. Let me warn you guys, to get to see the view – you have to climb a treacherous climb. It is not hard or long but it can be a bit tricky for those with unsure footing. What makes it difficult is that there is only one way in and one way out. For those that went to the Leaning Tower of Pisa you know what I’m talking about. There is a very narrow rocky entrance/exit and you have to literally duckwalk up – so if you have back problems – it’s not impossible but it suggested you don’t do it. If you slip and fall, you’re hurt. Also, if you stand up at the wrong place – you’re going to cut your head. Trust me – if you shaky at all – don’t climb. There are other portions of the garden you can visit. Besides, they only let one side go in, and then they stop and take turns, exactly like they do at the Leaning Tower of Pisa. One group goes up to the middle landing, and then they are shooed to the outside to give the people on the top time to get down. It is very narrow and tricky too. Well, this is too. The view is nice and the windy air feels good but it’s not worth the chance of getting hurt if you’re unsteady. Besides – we only got 15 minutes here and 12 of those minutes were wasted waiting in line to get in and out.
Next we drove around the island, came across the ATV excursion and the Jeep excursion. These looked like fun people but let me tell you – IF YOU’RE PLANNING ON DOING THESE ONES – PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, bring VERY OLD CLOTHES and a face mask. You are given a helmet and that is it. We saw these people filthy black and some did not get goggles. It was pretty bad. I’m sure they had fun, but the clean-up wasn’t worth it. So if you’re planning on these ones, be forewarned. Take throwaway clothes and goggles and a face mask. Trust me, your nose and throat will thank you later. They essentially ended up at our next stop – the Natural Bridge. First off – the bridge was naturally formed by nature and is/was what the name implies – to end jetty’s that were connected at one time by a natural rock bridge. Back in January of 2005, the bridge collapsed and they no longer allow people to cross. They have big warning signs to not climb. The spot is very beautiful and worth a visit for the scenery alone. HOWEVER, keep in mind what happened to Steve in Antigua back in 2006 – your camcorder will thank you later! ROTFL!! There is a blowhole type of action which can spray you and any electronic equipment you have if you’re not careful.
So after that, we drove around the island; OH, I asked the guide, (some facts here) the island is only 19.6 miles long, 6 miles wide and is approximately 74 sq miles. It is also only about 17 miles from Northwestern tip of Venezuela. Most of it is desert and believe me – very dusty. The time zone is Atlantic Standard Time. The official language is Dutch but basically 4 languages are spoken here and they are Dutch, the native tongue - Papiamento, English and Spanish. Interesting fact per our tour guide: each child is mandated by Queen Beatrice to go to school. By age 3 they start “kindergarten” and at age 6 they go to elementary school. At age 12, they must know the 4 languages mentioned above. At 18, they make a decision and most chose to go to Holland/Europe to study. If the student chooses to go to the USA to study, the parents ARE ON THEIR OWN in paying school. If they go to Europe – it’s paid for. There is only one “college” type of school and it’s not very big. I saw it. Truly, not very big.
The medium temperature year round is between 83-84 degrees. The crime rate is very low, according to our guide, only about 5%. However, he did mention that the majority of the crime has to deal with drugs since they are only 17 miles from Venezuela – according to him – he kept mentioning that. A small, and I do mean small 2 bedroom house will run you about $80-$90 thousand dollars. You have your typical Caribbean-style house. If you’ve seen them on another island – you’re going to see them again. Oh yeah, most home builders will build the wall and foundation then when they reach that point, they get a bank loan to complete the rest at a 9% interest rate. Very interesting fact: all water, electricity bills etc are due on the 14th of each month – and yes our guide already paid his.
Aruba has one major hwy named after an American Engineer – L. Smith Hwy which is the only hwy on Aruba. The water is expensive and thus Aruba desalinates its water. They desalinate over 14 million gallons per day and they are stored in reservoirs. The minimum monthly income is $700 (US dollars) per month if you don’t have a job. Many work 2-3 jobs. Tourism is the major industry since oil closed down – but they ended up returning 12 years after they initially closed down and they are 2nd. The favorite sport is Baseball of course.
All tours were run by De Palma Tours. The one I was on –the ATV, Jeep ones – they are the major tourist company on the island so you will see their cars and busses everywhere. Anyway, back to my day, after leaving the Natural Rock Bridge (which was collapsed and non-walkable) we only had 15 minutes there too. We proceeded to our 2nd to the last destination – the Aloe Factory Plant. THIS FOLKS – WAS A TOTAL WASTE OF TIME. I am seriously bummed that DCL did not do their homework, we ended up wasting a lot – and I mean – a lot of time because remember those 5 busses on this excursion alone? Yup! They all ended up at the same place around the same time and our buss was the last one. So, we waited to get introduced and shown things. Then we were ushered into the factory – which is really like a one big living room production – The whole thing could have been walked and shown in less than 5 minutes and instead we spent almost an hour there. We did however get a snack. This snack was called (and spelling may be wrong) “pistache” which is really very similar to an empanada – or a dumpling. We had 2 – one with cheese –which Steve kept asking – where’s the cheese? I didn’t get any cheese. Then we got another one which the driver was very evasive on what it was. I DID NOT eat it and to tell you the truth – it kinda looked like a big turd. SERIOUSLY – a big ol’ long turd. Sorry folks, I did warn you. LOL. I took one bite and made myself swallow it – after the look on my face Steve did not even attempt his. ROTFLMAO!
So, after that we drove around to the tourist hotels and beaches where we were supposed to have one hour to “frolick” in the ocean. This is the place where most tourist visit – they had the Marriott, Sheraton and Radisson among others. Also, FYI – Marriott is building a very big section of timeshares so this area is soon to be more populated. They are also building a move complex across from the timeshares they are building. That part of Aruba is soon to explode. Oh Yeah, just as we were let out to walk to the beach, I managed to catch sight of Hooters so anyone interested – there is a Hooters in Aruba! LOL J
The beach was amazing and we spent a few minutes here collecting my sand from my neighbor – long story – she watches me lawn and I bring her sand from exotic locations. BTW, be prepared to pay for any toilets. This trip we ended up paying anywhere from $0.25 cents to $0.50 cents to use the toilets. But surprisingly – they were clean both times I paid. Hey – I switched to water people – remember? I have to pee a lot.
After, and yes, the typical people that chose to hold up the buss made us later getting back to the ship. I was under the impression we were supposed to be back by 12:45 – we didn’t get back until 2 pm jus t in time to miss lunch. So it was Pluto’s playhouse for us. Steve and I woofed down a hot dog, tried the ham and pineapple pizza – couldn’t swallow it and then tried the Cajun Chicken Sandwich was another no-go for me. But the Hot dog was good! J
So after we ate and freshened up – we hightailed it to my favorite portion of the cruise – SHOPPING! There was a Diamonds International, Tanzanite International, Little Switzerland and numerous other jewelry stores but I really wasn’t impressed. Seen them all didn’t buy anything. The only one I truly wanted to catch and totally missed as somehow my Aruba map showing us where the jewelry stores were was left on the ship when we deposited our stuff. No bother – I’m returning back here in August – God willing! Double J J
So then, Steve wanted to get back to see National Treasure so I made him go ahead of me – I swear – you’d think I wasn’t a grown woman. I was only about 1000 yds from the cruise terminal and you’d think I would have gotten stolen and kidnapped or something – but no – I made it back in time. Got my prerequisite magnets, bags and a couple of shirts for me and the girls.
All aboard was at 6 pm and I was back on by 5:40. We left on time at a little past six and I managed to stay on deck 9 and take some shots. BTY, there is a Senor Frogs literally 1 minute from the ship. So those that can’t wait to drink in Aruba – you don’t have far to go. I have some pictures but again – I’m having trouble posting pictures. I must be falling asleep as I’m making tons of mistakes.
Tonight was Tropical Night and the menu – for me was not my favorite. Lots of pineapple and seafood – and as you all know – seafood is not my favorite. The onboard entertainment-which I missed was Kevin Johnson – the ventriloquist. I didn’t see it so can’t pass judgement. I did however, see a wonderful sunset. Dinner menu was titled Taste of the Caribbean and I could have done with Topsiders had I remembered. Drink of the day was Go West and I did not try it. I did however, try the pineapple mojito – my first mojito ever and it was ok. A little too much mint leaves in it but it was ok – strong and I felt if after not having any food in my stomach for over 5 hours. It hit me real quick. Also, tonight is our first time zone change. We move back one hour! YEAH!!! Also, tonight was karaoke night but I was just too tired to go and instead am here typing. LOL – I was at Quiet Cove Bar and had the barrista make me a Vanilla Cream Steamer – it was a little short of Starbucks but did in a flash. She had never heard of it but said she could make it. She thought it was cool and simple.
With just a few more comments, here are my thoughts on the excursion. I would not do this again. The Aloe factory was a complete bust FOR ME! They have stands and product all over the island. Nothing really to see and the product are a bit expensive. Also, my time was more precious to me and I would have liked to have had a few more minutes to actually go into the water and then have time to dry off. When I got back to the terminal, I looked to the right and noticed an established taxi rate. Rates are per trip – not per passenger so if I ever get the picture with the rates up – remember – they are per trip. If you get a few people – you can really have a customized itinerary. For me, the only other thing I wanted to do was see the California Lighthouse which I did not get to see but I was told that people cannot climb it anymore due to the fact that someone jumped off and committed suicide so they closed it to climbing. Still, it would have been nice to see it – perhaps on the return trip.
OK all, I’m tired, Steve’s stopped sawing some logs and I might be able to get some sleep – maybe catch a few of those minute of that hour I’m gaining. Friday is Panama Canal and we will be getting fed rather well that day (insert winking eye smiley in here)

OK folks – gotta go – later!

Dining Rotations on EBPC

Hi All!
Spoke with the Head Dining Manager, as of right now, the dining rotations on the EB will be 5:30, 5:45, & 6:00. Late Dining will be 8:00, 8:15 & 8:30. Course, as we all know Disney – things can change at any moment.
Tomorrow is Aruba and since this is DCL’s inaugural visit, lots of activities are scheduled, important officials s/a the governor, elected officials, then they get to come onboard where they will be treated to breakfast, lunch or dinner.
As for us, we will be doing a tour of Aruba. Can’t remember which one – details to come later. I was having trouble posting pictures so I will attempt to post one now. Steve is off playing poker. Had to shoo him off since he couldn’t get off the computer.
Trying something new. Lets see if this works. Here is the Magic at Castaway Cay.

OK so pictures are not working any more. I've realized that I've forgotten to mention the sea conditions. So far, until at least today, things were really smooth. Every once in a great while you would feel a slight bump very similar to going over a bump on the highway. Today has been the most movement since we joined the ship. But its not even all that bad. The weather ahs been a bit windy and overcast and I've spent it mostly indoors. Off to relax for a bit. Be back on later.

Monday, May 12, 2008

Hey all another quick post before I go to bed. Tonight was formal night. Got my picture with Cpt Thord and my soldiers. Went to diner - it was the Golden Mickeys Menu. Had the Beef with Wellington - it was delicious. Haven't had red meat that I liked in a while. Came with crispy carrots, baby potatoes and broccoli. All juicy and tender. Cleaned my plate like a good girl. For desert I have some kind of baked apple and berry pirthivers or something like that. It was baked and good but it was only a sliver.

Then Steve and I headed down to change. My new shoes were killing me. We ended up catching the late adult show which featured Ricky Kelmon - the hypnotist. This was the adult version. Still a bit clean - not raunchy enough really but it was good. :) He had some of the same volunteers which of course started the conspiracy theory that they were plants. Same blonde, dumb chick and chickadee but there was this guy who was really good. VERY GOOD. He had the audience rolling. One of the DIS members I know went up and stayed up but left before I could talk with him. Will have to see if I can catch him tomorrow.

Speaking of which, Tuesday is "Dreams" night and is NOT - I repeat - NOT another formal. It is cruise casual with dinner at Lumiere's for us featuring a French dinner. Drink of the day is True Colors.

OMG - true fact - the Disney Magic weighs 28,200 lbs - the same weight as three elephants.

OK folks - talk to you later.
Hey Roger - got your comment, the dinner rotations are 5:45, 6 and 6:15. Late is 8, 8:15 and 8:30. I will double confirm on the early but I have to wait until I run into Alen again. He usually tells me if I ask. As for my PST, I was going to change but realized I must change it back when I get home so I didn't change them in the first place to save me a step. OK, OK - I was just lazy.

Anyway, just wanted to post a couple more pictures. Here you all go - hopefully it will make you feel like your with me!

Having trouble posting pictures will try again later.

A PERFECT DAY IN PARADISE, MOTHER'S DAY, 5-11-08

A MOTHER’S DAY IN PARADISE

OK – welcome to my most WONDERFUL MOTHER’S DAY EVER. I had the most wonderful, perfect day ever. I was truly happy and serene for the first time in a long time. It started with us getting to sleep in late. As you all know – we arrived at Castaway Cay at about 8:15. We left the ship at 11.

We disembarked and had our pictures taken by the ship’s photog for only the 2nd time since we have sailed since 1998! Well, for those of you that don’t know, I am sponsoring 2 soldiers. A female Army enlisted and a Marine Cpt. I have a picture of the Marine Cpt’s company so they along for the ride. I got the photog to take their picture which I will send to them later. Just a token to let them know they are not forgotten.
Well , after a false start, we had to return to get my polarizer for my lense and my large lens. We then made it over to Cookie’s BBQ which was alright. I am truly trying to behave myself and ate only till I was comfortably full. Then after we headed to Serenity Bay to check it out. For those in the know, I have not been there since last May Repo. I moved from the section I wished to avoid and I was ok after about 1 hr. Steve ended up wanting to stay as he wanted some color to his pale skin – white men – what can I say! Well, he definitely has color now! He went from invisible to Sebastian red! ROTFL. Not too hard since I am also a bit tender and pink – but as I said earlier – I should be well done in a few days. So by the time we land in Cabo where I have scheduled us for a kayaking session, I should be ready for round two.
Well, after laying in the water for a couple of hours, I finally stole a hammock. Seems most people cleared out of Serenity Bay at about 2 or 2:30. I finally got to lay down and underneath an umbrella. So, then we headed out to hike but Steve was all torn up and instead headed to the ship. I refresh by taking a shower and getting ready for diner. We managed to switch to 8:15 dinner seating and this has turned out much better for me. I was a bit apprehensive at first as this was the 2nd night but as the saying goes – THINGS HAPPEN FOR A REASON.

Turns out we were paired with a family – a MEXICAN family traveling with 6 in their party. We were denied Collin which was frustrating as we had been told he would not be full but that’s ok – we switched to Putu who is going by Agous now. He has a new beverage asst who is Phil, Dr Phil for short, he’s a green-wet-behind-the-ears newbie. That’s ok , we will be breaking him in shorty! ROTFL
Seems I’ve been adopted by this family. They are Mom - Maria, matriarch traveling with Patricia, oldest unmarried DD, youngest DD whom is married to Raphael and is traveling with their2 kids, David and Angelica. So, it took all of a matter of 2 minutes to figure out I spoke Spanish and from that point on, conversation proceeded in Spanish with a few “English, please.” (Good-naturedly of course J ) from Dr. Phil. Anyway, this family has a great sense of humor. Seems Mom’s 2nd birthday was last night instead of December 25th. ROTFLMAO! It was hilarious. - even more so when they tried to converse with Steve. I explained to mom and group that Steve is a bit quiet but if we made enough noise, eventually he’ll crawl out of his shell. By the end of the evening, we all came to the conclusion that we’ll stick the men at the end of the table so that they won’t rain on our parade. LOL J Seriously though, they were all a blast and I can foresee the rest of this cruise as being non-stop hilarity. On the way out of Animator’s Palette, “mom” and I got to laughing so hard, we both almost pee’d our pants. And when DH asked if they were this happy the first night, seems somehow, I DON’T KNOW HOW, but I got blamed for the frivolity at the table – AS IF!!!!!! I just went with the flow and just getting started as it turned out.
We got out in time to catch the cabaret show in Diversons – as Rocking Bar D was totally full. Entertainer was John Charles who basically entertained us by doing a guitar solo act of comedy. He covered all artists from Queen, Jimi Hendrix, Celene Dion, Carrie Underwood to Sister Hazel! He was actually really entertaining and I would love to see him again. I haven’t laughed so hard in ages. That show was at 10:30 but I forgot to mention the Prime show – The Ricky Kelmon Show. He’s as you all know by now, a hypnotist and his show was awesome! I still don’t know whether to believe if those people actually went under or if they were acting, but it definitely made for a better show. He’s great and DO NOT MISS HIM if you get an opportunity to catch him. I don’t want to give too much away but keep in mind, I REALLY do not laugh too much – out loud, I smile a lot but it takes a lot to make me laugh out loud, I did so much last night – I think my laugher is broken. That show last about 45 minutes and we were out by 7:05. Show started at 6:15. Tomorrow, Monday, 5-12, Ricky Kalmon will be doing an adult show at 11 pm. Can’t miss that one. I anticipate another full bar. John Charles will be doing a family show on Monday also at 7:30. Too tame after last night.
Ok, so as we’re filing out of Diversions, I run into the Shots Around the Ship gang. DH had to find Collin Clark and then we went back. It was a bit scary to introduce ourselves to people we hadn’t meet yet but what the heck – I forced myself onto them. Turns out I ended up having another blast. I jumped full blast into it by ordering A Don Julio Anego shot of tequila. I was “told” that I should have it in a snifter which I did. DH tried it and decided he’d have one too. We were then informed that they would be closing the bar in 15 minutes and we’d have to move then. So, we took our “snifter” and went and introduced ourselves again. Then when the 15 minutes were up, we went to Rocking Bar D. As we went in – ½ of the group was already there. I told a fellow Thiever that we would get the party started. She readily agreed and we proceeded to find a table. The band was playing their last tunes and we pretty much had the pub to ourselves. After, DJ Mike came on and we watched as one DIS-ser was dancing. All of a sudden, the light came on – why not dance? She was the only one out there, granted a bit intoxicated but after all - - these people didn’t know me – why not just jump in? So I did, when the next song came on that I liked – I ran to the dance floor – by myself and just jumped in. That of course started a whole slew of folks – (OK – only 4 more) LOL but at least there was a small crowd now. Many songs were played but the only one I remember that I couldn’t resist was “FOOTLOOSE”. I LOVE THAT SONG! I remember when it first came out and not having the guts to go out there and dance. Keep in mind folks that I can’t dance. I can start to move then I freeze up, I don’t really freak, don’t really twist, don’t really dance but I sure was that night. When I came back to the table, Steve was looking at me like I was some kind of alien who took over his wife’s body. LOL. I was substantially fortified and continued to dance from “Low” by Flo Rida, U2, Queen, to line dancing. Never mind that I’ve never line danced. I just got in there! Lots of fun songs were played and I danced to them all. Later in our cabin – Steve said that he’s never seen me so happy. He says that he could tell I was having a good time. How sad that was to me in a way but it didn’t hamper my mood. Made me realize that I should take a bit of time to myself and enjoy it more often. You see, growing up, I had to be the parent always. I always tried to portray myself proper in front of the kids. I never drank in front of them due to my family history with alcoholism. I didn’t want the kids thinking it was ok to have a drink. Hence, I always tried to be good and therefore wound up with a reputation of being a stick in the mud. HOWEVER, as we all know, we are traveling without kids and therefore - the rules DON’T HOLD! YIPPEE!

DH the rat, texted DD – Megan telling her that I was drunk, which is why I posted that I was not drunk – I was loose (helped with a little creativity from fellow DIS poster there – sorry I’ll insert name later! ) Bless my DD’s heart – her answer? If she’s finally out there dancing and having fun – that’s all that matters! Then she texted me to continue to have a good time. LOL – backfired on him there. What a relief, for if he’d texted Andrew, he’d of been mortified that I was acting like a teenager. OMG! Some of the escapades that were pulled on the dance floor – cannot post here – but in looking back, I’m sure that I will remember the full moons on that night! ROTFL! Not to mention the bumping and grinding going on. OH YEAH! We even got to party with Chris and his partner – don’t know her name right now but give me time. They are the deaf interpreters on the ship and I was amazed at him when he was signing – The Devil Went Down to Georgia. Amazing! Again to which we all danced around him and acted the song out! J

Well, unfortunately, the night had to end and DJ Mike left us to our own accord. Another fellow DIS-ser was on babysitting duty, seeing as several husbands had gifted their lovely wives with the present of enjoying the night out while they watched the kids, for Mother’s Day. So, as DH and I were not totally wasted, we walked home a fellow DIS-ser while they took another one home. It wasn’t all that bad as she was on our floor. I meet some really wonderful people and hope to have another opportunity to meet up with them on the 19th for “Shots Around the Ship II”. . Hopefully by that time I can come up with some ingenious drink. I prefer tequila but it’s just because I haven’t meet the right rum! Any suggestions anyone? BTW, this group has everyone from a CEO, to an engineer, to a surrogate mother to me – the soldier photo-bearing, crazy lady who’s sailing the summer away. Turns out, I seem to have been talked about and have been nicknamed the Crazy Cruiser. I not crazy – I just appear that way. LOL.
Oh yeah, I have shots of the PC material, from t-shirts to zippies to hoodies to caps. They have a really nice WHITE one. A nice DARK BLUE one and the cap is NAVY BLUE. Will post those later as the resolution will take up too much time to post. If someone can take them, once I post them on the blog, and post them on the Pirate Zone, I would be most humbly pleased. For some reason, they seem to load up much faster in my blog report than in photobucket. They have changed something which makes it harder for me to upload more than one photo at a time.
OK folks, I’ve gone onto another page so I must be closing this out. I will say that we finally got to bed around 3:40 and DH woke up for a bit in the morning trying to look at stocks but system was a bit slow. What did he expect? Today was our first sea day and us diehard posters had to hog up the lines. I finally got up at 12:30 and we got out of our stateroom at 1:40 just in time to make it to Parrot Cay which had American Buffett. BTW, if anyone is interested – the ship is carrying Coke, Diet Coke, Sprite, Sprite Zero, Ginger Ale, cranberry juice and apple, tomato and or course water. But no Caffeine-Free Diet Anything. They still have Sweet-N-Low but also Splenda, and the Blue one forgot that one’s name.
Oh yeah, upon our getting to Serenity Bay – we were greated by the wonderful sight of some large fish – Steve seems to think it was a barracuda. I managed to snap a picture of it – wonder if I can post it – you can see the shape of it – but I didn’t want to get too close to it.

BTW, I’ve run into Chicken Boy a couple of times and I’ve been so tempted to call him that but thought I’d better let sleeping dogs lie. NOT! I’m just biding my time. Too bad HE wasn’t the one selected for hypnotizing. Would have added more fuel to the fire. LOL. Also, took pictures of the gym if anyone is interested. Can post those later. If anyone has any questions, let me know – best bet would be to post a comment on the blog as I may not get to the DIS. If its as slow as it was today, I’ll be on my next internet package by Thurs. At least with the blog I can type it up beforehand and then check the comments.

My intentions are to type something every night and go from there. OK folks, its not 5:25 on formal night – Monday, May 12 and I have got to close this up so that I can get ready for The Golden Mickeys which is on tonight. Some old faces in the entertaining crew are Natalie and Trent. Haven’t caught up with others but will post at a later date. OK, this coffee smell is killing me – smells so good in here – the Quiet Cove CafĂ© that I am dying, kicking myself for quitting caffeine. Why oh why, did I? Tomorrow is another sea day and another formal so we shall see how I look otherwise I may end up having to use a pantsuit if I don’t tone down my color.

OK – gotta go – talk to you all later – in the immortal words of Chris Brown – KISS, KISS! Love ya!
